Perennial ryegrass

ryePerennial Ryegrass or English Ryegrass (Lolium perenne L.) is a lower bunch-grass cereal, which reaches heights up to 40-80 cm. It is one of the best pasture grasses and tolerant to trampling and packing. The intensive grazing increases its bushing. It is willingly consumed by livestock before earing. It has high nutritional value: 100 kg of grass contains 21-22 k.o, hay- 55 k.o. Its herbage and hayfields retain for 3-5 years and in pastures the perennial ryegrass retains 7 years or more. It is well combined with white clover and can be used for sowing beams, slopes and for making lawns. During the haymaking the yield of green mass is retained: 300-400 centner / he; hay – 80-100; seeds – 4-6 centner / he. The full development is reached in the second or third year after sowing.
Root systems don’t penetrate very deeply and that is why perennial ryegrass grows better in the regions with sufficient amount of precipitations, though it is not tolerant to spring floods. English Ryegrass can not withstand draught and frosts, especially during snowless winters when susceptible to spring frosts. It grows well in different types of fertile and non-acid soils as well as light dry soils are less favorable. Perennial Ryegrass don’t grow in peatlands.
The common row method with СЗТ-3, 6 seed drills is used. The seeding rate is 4- 5 million pcs/he. In physical mass –10-14 kg/he. Enfolding depth on medium in mechanical composition soils is 2-3 cm, on heavy 1- 2, on light – 3-4 cm.
