Oat (Avena) is a genus of 25 species of cereals in the Poaceae family.

Oats (Avena L.) belong to the cereal family. Among the many species of oats, there are cultivated and wild forms (weeds - wild oats, or oatsug). Cultivated oats belong to the most common species in culture - sowing oats. Seed oats are an annual cereal plant.
Oats are a temperate climate crop that is not demanding of heat, and in Ukraine are more common in Polissya and the Forest-Steppe. It assimilates phosphorus from hardly soluble compounds, so it is not very demanding on soil fertility. It grows well on sandy, loamy, clayey, and peaty soils. It grows poorly on saline soils.
