Winter vetch

08_vika_ozimaAbout the plant: Winter Vetch (hairy) is highly fodder crop rich in digestible nutrients and biological complete protein that contain all essential amino acids.

During the cuting maturity the green mass contains 21.4% of protein, 3.6% of fat, 31.5%of cellulose, 1.59% of calcium and 0.36% of phosphorus. Because of the forage qualities of winter vetch green mass is comparable to clover and spring vetch.
Winter vetch seeds have a bitter taste, so pets are reluctant to eatit, but in concentrated feed they should not be more than 10%.
Winter vetch crop is processed as a culture medium and mixed with winter rye or wheat and can be used for green fodder in the system of green conveyor, hay, grass meal, for keeping hay and silage.
It starts vegetation immediately after melting of snow. It grows rapidly, surpassing in this respect, clover, and other grass. The highest growth of green mass is during budding and especially in the flowering stage. In winter vetch extended period of flowering plants long coarse. In late collection (during earing bread) quality of fodder mixtures is worse.
Winter vetch seeds are smaller than spring vetch (mass of 1000 pieces is 20 – 40 g). It germinates at 1-2 ° C. Frost resistance and winter hardiness is low. For the development of plants from early spring regrowth before flowering sum of effective temperatures (over 10 ° C) should be an average of 600 ° C, and the beginning of ripening seeds – about 1200-1300 ° C.
Winter vetch is more drought resistant spring vetch, but responds well to rain, especially in the spring. However, seed yield decreases if during the flowering period there are some rains. Blooming is in June, ripen is unevenly. Ripe beans burst easily, seeds are spread all over the ground and strongly litters the ground.
Winter vetchis less demanding for soil. Only too acidic, contaminated, dense, dry and sandy soilsare not good for it.
The types and doses of fertilizers for winter cereal mixture are set due to the mechanical content and natural soil fertility, and also depending on the amount of fertilizers earlier added for the previous plants.
Vetch-cereal mixture do not occupy separate areas for rotation. Soil cultivation for vetch should provide normal wintering of winter vetch plants. For the destruction of weeds, accumulation and preservation of the maximum amount of moisture they should start the soil preparations early. Following the rules of storage of vetch lets seed keep its sowing qualities for 4 year. Rising qualities in 10 years are about 70-78%.

IMPLEMENTATION: Our company offers the best prices for buying winter vetch seeds of the following sorts: Hybrid 85, Jubilee, Kolomiya 2.

Hybrid 85
It is recommended for use in the areas of steppe and woodlands. Originator is Poltava State Agricultural Experiment Station, Bilotserkivska Experimental Breeding Station, Institute for Sugar Beet UAAS. Method of withdrawal: intraspecific hybridization, individual and population selection from the better offspring. Approbation characteristics of the sort: round seeds, no picture, pale lilac color, cotyledons have orange color, beans are slightly curved with pointed tip bent, leaves are even- feathery and consists of 7-8 pairs of leaves, stipules complex (1.5-2.0 mm x 3.4 mm) with inconspicuous spot.
The average dry matter yield is 94.3 centners / ha; seed – 21.1 c / ha. Crude protein content is 18.4%, oil – 2,83%, fiber – 27.34%. Collection of protein – 3 3.4 kg / ha. It is a middle-rape sort, enough drought-resistant, has a multiplication factor. Less weight (1000 seeds is 61.4 g) contributes to exceeds standard for seed productivity by 3.0%. The sort is not demanding for soil.

Jubilee
Originator: Poltava State Agricultural Experiment Station named after M.I. Vavilov (Institute of pig production and agriculture of Ukrainian Academy of Agrarian Sciences of Ukraine). Authors of the sort: P.S.Rubel, Z.M Urska, I.V Kolesnik. It is added to the State Register of plant varieties of Ukraine since 2001.
Characteristics of the sort: globular seeds, black or dark gray, smooth, brilliant with light gray scar. Weight of 1000 seeds -is31,2-35,4 g (average – 33.1 g). Hardness is about 3%. The plant has branched bush, average height during blooming is 116-125 cm. The stem is green with a bluish tinge. Inflorescence is tassel with 20-30 and more blue-violet flowers. Beans have elongated-rhombic shape with 3-4 seed
The sort is early-ripe, characterized by friendly flowering and ripening beans. The yield of green mass for 12.8% of hay is 14.3%, seeds – 20%.

Kolomiya 2
Originator: Ivano-Frankivsk Pedagogical Institute and Ivano-Frankivsk Regional Agricultural Research Station. Authors: Z.Y. Pavlik, M.P. Boychuk, I.D. Shturmak.
The sort is created by individual selection from local populations of winter vetch in Drohobych district, Lviv region.
It is added to the Register of plant varieties of Ukraine in 1983.
When it rises it is dark green, rarely pubescent. Stem is green, slightly pubescent, height is 159 cm. The total number of internodes – 24, the first inflorescence – 5. leaves are complex- pinnate and consist of 6-10 long, pale green leaves. Leave density is high. The flowers are purple, small, on a long peduncle. Beans are brown, rhombic, with pointed tip, dense pubescence, containing 4-6 seeds. Seeds are dark brown, with gray pigmentation, round. Weight of 1000 seeds is 3-36 grams, protein content is 24.1%. The vegetative season before the cutting for green mass is 240-245 days, and the seeds – 280 days. The sort is winter-resistant.
For years of testing (1980-1981) in Kaluga Ivano-Frankivsk region green mass yield was 182. Hay – 43.4 c / ha, which is higher that the sort Stavchanka respectively 42 and 10.8 kg / ha. Seed production is standard. Zoned in Ivano-Frankivsk region.
